As we sit in the waiting room of Bob’s Chevrolet in Milford, CT, I can’t help but feel grateful.
Grateful for incredible friends like James Bailey, Jacob Benson, Alex Furer and Eliese Lissner, who opened their arms and homes to us as we’ve made our way along The Procession. Grateful for the awesome fans and friends who waited well past 10 pm last night at Kenny’s Castaways in Greenwich Village to watch us perform, as we (attempted to) change a flat tire. Grateful for Dr. Sandy Pritchard’s understanding and generosity as we’ve trekked across the country in his massive Yukon XL (which we’ve affectionately named ‘The Beast’), kindly putting us up in a hotel last night after a disappointing night of missing a gig. Grateful for Logan’s commonsense to prevent us from foolishly attempting to make it into NYC last night after our second flat tire (we were just told that the tire was poorly fastened and about to fall off!).
I’m also incredibly grateful to be traveling with such an incredibly talented and awesome group of guys. Our music has progressed dramatically over the course of the last week (thanks, in no small part, to the addition of Nathan and Will to the band), and there is a marked improvement in the texture, development and performance of our music every time we play.
We’re growing both as a band and as people, experiencing an incredible diversity of both experiences and interactions. From dancing on the glowing dance floor of the Pequot Inn to shotgunning beers in front of a construction site in Williamsburg to getting help from kind strangers in quasi-rural Connecticut, Big Time’s Procession has been an incredible time thus far — filled, as would be expected, with ups and downs, highs and lows.
I suppose, though, that that’s what it’s all about — riding the roller-coaster of the vicissitudes of life. Every once in a while, we’ll get a flat tire along that ride. But, at the end of the day, we’re still pretty damn lucky.
So thank you. Thank you, family and friends. Thank you, fans and well-wishers. And thank you, life.
Here’s to proceeding along the Great Unknown.
Rock and roll,
Steven
